New Governance Arrangements
Following the Yorkshire Declaration of April 2024, we are committed to drafting a codified constitution for an autonomous Yorkshire. Our region has a population comparable to Denmark, Norway, and Scotland, yet we lack our own government to protect our interests.
This constitution will enshrine inclusive, grassroots participation, ensuring every resident has a voice in shaping Yorkshire’s governance. It will define the roles of local councils, regional mayors, and establish a Yorkshire Parliament. It will form a transparent framework for democratic governance, civic responsibility, and public accountability — a lasting foundation for a fairer, stronger, and future-facing Yorkshire.
Being part of a federal England will enable us to have our say on national issues and collaborate with other regions on shared challenges, such as transport and climate change.
