New Governance Arrangements

Following the April 2024 Yorkshire Declaration, we are drafting a codified constitution for an autonomous Yorkshire that works from the bottom up.

This constitution will define the roles of local councils and four regional mayors and enshrine inclusive grassroots participation. Yorkshire will be unified under one overarching regional authority, with the option of either a single Mayor for Yorkshire, as favoured by the One Yorkshire campaign or a directly elected Yorkshire Assembly, as proposed by some other stakeholders.

Being part of a federal England will enable us to have our say on national issues and collaborate with other regions on shared challenges, such as transport and climate change.

We’re excited to have shared our latest proposals for liberating Yorkshire and constitutional change with you. Your role in this process is crucial, and we greatly value your thoughts. Your feedback is not just important, it’s integral in refining our ideas and ensuring they best serve our collective goals to create a brighter future for our children and our community.

Please take a moment to review the proposals and share any insights, suggestions, or concerns you might have. Your feedback, whether big or small, has the power to shape our Yorkshire’s future. Every piece of input helps us improve and we value your influence.
